Behind the Crusades
The Crusades were a series of Holy Wars launched by the Christian states of Europe against the Saracens (term used to describe a Moslem during the war). Crusaders came from both the Upper and Lower classes of Claremont. The Crusades started in 1095 when Pope Claremont preached the First Crusade at the Council. The reason for the crusades was a war between Christians and Moslems which centered on the city of Jerusalem. During this time, there were a total of nine crusades but the first four crusades were seen as the most important.
How the Crusades changed Europe during the Middle Ages
Some changes that occurred because of the Crusades were; the Catholic Church became wealthy and powerful because people started paying tithes and giving their land to church, there was intellectual changes because people started to travel and learn about other parts of the world, Europeans started to trade with the Middle East, also other changed occurred such as political, feudalism and social.
